Living here in rural France (Vienne 86) for almost 4 years now, we have been surprised by the slow uptake of the use of solar energy.

So, using my experience from the UK and my Electrical engineering knowledge, we decided to look a bit deeper into the reasons why.

There were two main reasons for this :

1). The price of electricity was stable and did not start rising until 2024. This meant that solar systems would prove expensive and therefore pay-back times were long.

2)  The only promoted solar options were large installers who were registered for grant schemes. The only real choice was large solar arrays on the roof with grid connection. This still meant that even with grants the price of solar was in tens of thousands of Euros; again not a viable solution.

In 2025 solar equipment globally started to lower in price, and with the price of electricity at an all time high, solar can now make sense and be a viable consideration.

Solar in rural France

SolarSimple is the result of the market being dominated by large companies who do not cater for the small to medium solar generation market.

Those of us who are looking to perhaps wanting to enter the Green energy available, but only require a relatively small set-up that can give us some cheaper energy without it being a major project or involving many professionals that will increase the budget.

SolarSimple, although a small start-up, is to provide friendly help and answers; to provide good customer service and support; to be a resource in solar for those living between Poitiers and Angoulême.

We want to build a good reputation and enjoy those we meet along the way. We strive to make the effort involved to be a lifestyle, not just work.

The formation of SolarSimple

We hope during the remaining months of 2025 to fill this section with testimonies and happy comments from our lovely customers !
