Solar kits are usually made up of very similar components where ever you are in the world. Their fundamental purpose to turn the sun’s energy in to electric. The majority of kits sold today are sized in kW (kilowatts) per hour of generation in full sun. In motorhomes the size of the roof is more the deciding factor and is usually less than 1kW/hr of generation.

Kits are usually sold with the main components only, so the wiring sizing and safety fuses are down to the individual, which can be challenging and prevent people taking their first step and introduction to solar.                                The variety of uses for small to medium power generation is quite large. From a simple lighting need in an outbuilding or pool filter pump to running household appliances. So it is very difficult to just purchase a solar kit without knowing your energy demand and for how long.

PLUG & PLAY :  We do not supply P&P kits. A new ruling in September 2025 restricts the use of any electrical power generation being plugged in to any household mains electric sockets.

A clever use of generating 230v via solar, is to have dedicated ‘Green’ sockets anywhere that are only connected to the solar system (via appropriate safety devices). If either by the sun only or by stored energy from batteries. A remote metering screen can be fitted near-by to advise you the status of any ‘Green’ sockets.

The kits we sell, are tailored to your needs or wishes, with the correct sizing and safety devices included. Therefore set pricing is almost impossible for ‘out-the-shelf’ kits. Also, we want to be confident that the purpose, size, rating and safety of the system is correct. After all, if we look after you from the beginning and give you the confidence of a safe and robust application, then you are more likely to recommend us.

Kits are sold in increments of 2kW. From 2kW using just 2-4 solar panels up to 12kW. The largest system requiring between 12-16 solar panels, which will need consideration of array location.

Roof space is the main driver when fitting Solar to motorhomes (excuse the pun…). You can also use flexible solar panels for ground use to provide or boost your solar.

New technology has made it easier to combine a ‘shore’ line (mains connection) with the solar and switch from one to the other or use both. The kits can provide 230v as well as 12v, without mains hook-up.

As the EV markets grow, the use of solar to help charge your vehicle is becoming a real viable option that could bring real-life savings to your charging costs.

In rural France, fast charging your vehicle is mostly found on motorways, where charging stations can supply over 80 Amps of power, allowing charging time to reduce. At home most charging is done with ‘trickle-charge’. That is, the maximum power available from your home supply is limited to the ‘kVA’ rating you chose to your meter. Most are 6 or 12 kVA. Therefore, charging your EV is usually an overnight or several hours long.

Solar charging can give you several hours (6-7hrs) of electricity via a separate charging post supplied in the solar kit. Pay-back periods are typically around 2 years, but the system is compatible with any change in Electric car choice. This would make it cost effective and not be altered in higher price changes of domestic tariffs.

A typical solar array for EV charging would be rated at 6-7kW / hr. Solar panels come with a 20-25 year guarantee, which helps give longevity to the system.
